How To: Highlight & Contour

If you are on Pinterest as often as we are, then you’ve seen many make-up "How-To" examples...one being how to Highlight and Contour.  How in the world did they get from the “before” to the “after”?  And how did they know where to put what?  We can see where it would be very confusing, but here’s a great trick to bring dimension to your face and make it look like the light is always hitting your face at just the right angle!

You can use many different types of products to get this affect, but play around with them until you find what works best for you.  We try to stick with either a highlighter OR contouring product that has a little shimmer.  You can use liquids, powders, or creams to achieve the desired effect.  When trying to figure out where to apply what, take the word “highlighting” as a literal term.  Highlight your favorite feature, or features, that you would like to be more prominent.  Remember, keep the “light” in the center of your face and put a “shadow” under areas that you would think would naturally be sheltered from the light (i.e. under the cheekbones, under the bottom lip, away from the bridge of your nose, or in the crease of your eyelid).  Ever want your face to make your face appear “slimmer”?  Try contouring around the outside of your face and blending into the light of the center.

This is just a little technique that can make a BIG difference!!
